Security & Privacy
We designed NowDrop to respect your privacy and data ownership. We don't want to store your files.
Peer-to-Peer Focus
Whenever possible, NowDrop establishes a direct peer-to-peer connection between your sending and receiving devices. This means your files travel directly over your local network rather than being uploaded to a central cloud server first.
Encrypted Connections
All data transferred through NowDrop is encrypted in transit. We utilize WebRTC's industry-standard DTLS (Datagram Transport Layer Security) to ensure your data cannot be intercepted or tampered with on the network.
Temporary Sessions
The signaling rooms used to introduce your devices are highly ephemeral. Once your devices have successfully paired, the signaling room is destroyed. We do not persist any connection data after your session ends.
No Permanent Storage
Unlike cloud storage services, NowDrop is a transport layer. We are designed specifically to minimize unnecessary server-side file storage and cloud bloat. Your files move from Device A to Device B, without sitting in a database forever.
Upcoming: End-to-End Encryption (E2EE)
We are currently building our Pro tier, which introduces an additional layer of true End-to-End Encryption using AES-GCM 256. This feature will allow you to lock your transfers with a 4-digit PIN, meaning the receiving device must cryptographically verify the PIN before the payload can be reconstructed. Coming soon!
